Basketball England CEO Stewart Kellett to visit IBC

Copleston will play host to a special guest this weekend, as Basketball England CEO Stewart Kellettpays a visit to Ipswich Basketball Club on a fact-finding mission to learn more about how our club is run.

Stewart will be a guest of IBC Head Coach Nick Drane for the day’s two junior games, with the Under-12 Boys and Girls playing each other at 11am, while the Under-16 Boys entertain Reading Rockets at 1pm.

Those games are followed by the first senior double-header of the year, as the Women are in action at 3pm against Bristol Flyers, before the Men face Sussex Bears at 5.30pm.

At this year’s Basketball England AGM, Stewart outlined a bold and progressive strategy for developing basketball in the country, and subsequently had the chance to discuss his intentions with Nick at a regional coaches’ meeting.

He has shown willingness to incorporate new ideas, learning from the Football Association’s redevelopment over the past decade as well as drawing on his experience at the immensely successful British Cycling programme.

“I’m delighted to be welcoming Stewart to our club on Saturday,” said Nick.

“We’re very proud of the great lengths we go to to promote this club and we have an outstanding core of volunteers who help to keep it ticking over.

“Hopefully Stewart will enjoy his time with us, both from an informational standpoint in terms of learning how our club is run and structured, but also with some entertaining on-court action!”
