Ipswich Basketball Club's 8th annual Golf Day, held at Hintlesham Golf Club on Friday, was a roaring success on and off the course.
With a record-breaking 73 players signing up, the Club have benefitted substantially from fund-raising activities on the day and would like to thank all who attended for their generosity and enthusiasm.
In a break from tradition, and as a by-product of Covid-19 restrictions, the usual shotgun start was abandoned in favour of a staggered start. Much of the best golf was played by the earlier teams, with IBC coaching staff largely bringing up the rear.
In the end, it was club chairman Simon Drane and his crack squad who took victory, fending off perennial contenders from Peter Drane's teams and a valiant effort by Copleston School entrants Fore Balls in a Bush. Simon and his team win the top prize, a four-ball voucher for 18 holes of golf at our hosts, Hintlesham Golf Club.
There was one individual prize on offer, and Jack Levermore scooped the cash pot for the birdies competition, his impressive five birdies edging out several other strong scorers.
Alongside the golf prizes were a host of raffle prizes and a club staple, the 100 Club. Here, the cash prize was scored by Ben Thomas, a rich reward for his selfless work as caddy and assistant to the Gran Canarians on the day!
The other raffle prizes were won by:
Such was the interest in the Golf Day that the club are considering organising another one, potentially in October half-term week. If you'd like to take part, please get in touch with us at office@ipswichbasketball.co.uk to register your interest and we will be back in touch soon.
Lastly, IBC would like to thank Rob Schatten, Dan Fisk, Matt Little, Kay Thomas and Marvin Isebor for all their efforts volunteering on the day, and Catherine Swan and her team at Hintlesham GC for hosting such a successful event.
