Cup successes for Under 16s

Several of Ipswich's junior sides were in National Cup action at Copleston this weekend, with the Under 16 Boys and Girls both progressing, while the Under 18 Boys bowed out.

The Under 16 Girls secured a massive 133-14 victory over Northamptonshire Titans. Ipswich's Premier side were facing Conference opposition, and set an impressive pace from the tip-off. Coach Kevin Manning's charges proved to have too much energy for the visitors to contend with and ran out comfortable victors.

Maia Wiseman led all scores with 24 points, while Katie Yorke and Cerys Leach added 19 each.

There was more Under 16/Manning success as Danny Manning's Under 16 Boys rebounded behind a dominant second half to see off Folkestone Saints, 86-56. Having trailed by three points at the break, Ipswich turned up the pace in the second half to overcome their Conference opposition.

Rummel Miah finished with 24 points and Joe Laycock scored another 19 to pace the Suffolk side.

The Under 18 Boys, however, will be going no further as they were knocked out by Baltic Stars, Nedas Cholevinskas leading his team to a 90-62 victory the day after pacing the senior side to a victory over Ipswich in NBL Division 2.

For the hosts, Joe Pulic put up 15 points, Ben Michaels added 12, and Lewis French 11.
