Match Report: Senior Women dominate the Division 1 WNBL

The Endeavour Ipswich Basketball Senior Women moved to 5-0 in WNBL Division One with a comprehensive 102-41 win against an under strength Manchester team at Copleston on Saturday.

The newly promoted Mystics travelled with some key players missing, but that shouldn’t take away from another dominant Ipswich performance that see’s them sitting at the top of WNBL Division One with some healthy basket difference.

Ipswich won all four quarters with all twelve players seeing the floor, as the Suffolk side continued their early season good form.

The hosts were led by another Harriet Welham masterclass – the Ipswich guard collected a season high 35 points to go with 8 rebounds and 5 assists, while Yazmin Edwards also continued her hot start to the season with a 25 point, 9 rebound effort, only missing two shots in the whole game. Ipswich also welcomed back Christabel Osarobo who has missed the last two games due to illness.

The win takes Ipswich to 5-0 in league play, (6-0 including the National Cup). The next three games will give a strong indication of what this team could be capable of this season. They will play three games in seven days, CoLA away this coming Sunday, ARU away in the National Cup on Tuesday the 14th in a rare mid-week game and Brent Bulls on Saturday the 18th. However, Coach Drane is, as ever, only thinking about the next game. “We are preparing for CoLA, which is always a tough place to play and we will worry about everything else after that” said the EIBC Head Coach.

Ipswich’s next fixture is this Sunday where they will play CoLA Southward Pride.
