Ipswich‘s all-conquering Under-14 Girls progressed to a national quarter-final with a 100-38 win over County Upper Wolves at Copleston on Sunday.
Kevin Manning’s team welcomed back local East Midlands Conference rivals County Upper after securing a bye through the first round of the Playoffs.
Ipswich held the advantage over the visitors this season with two victories earlier in the campaign, but both teams knew that the season would end for one of them on the day and therefore nothing was being taken for granted.
It was the Wolves who settled into the game first, staying well in touch during the early first quarter minutes. It took until the fourth minute for Ipswich to establish themselves in the contest, on the back of a 10-2 scoring run which propelled the home side to a 26-10 lead after one quarter.
Ipswich began to play with more confidence in the second, holding the visitors to only five points while keeping the scoreboard moving in their favour. Ipswich held a significant 47-15 lead at the half. The third quarter proved too much for the visitors, with Ipswich scoring easily from open transition opportunities and half-court sets alike, posting 33 points whilst allowing only ten in return. Going into the last period of play, Ipswich enjoyed an insurmountable 80-25 advantage.
The reward for this victory is a place in the Quarter Finals of the competition and another home tie, against South Essex Swifts, this coming weekend.
Yasmin Edwards led all scorers with 29 points. Olivia Manning added 16 and Ella Hawes chipped in a further 13 for Ipswich.
