Weekly Junior Wrap: Hard work pays off for Under 16 Boys

Ipswich junior sides enjoyed a largely successful weekend of basketball this past week, as the Under 14 Girls led the way with a huge 97-18 win over Bedford. Tanaia Robinson had 29 points to lead all scorers while Kara Yusoof and Lily Macro had 14 and 13 respectively. Ipswich are now 4-1 on the season so far.

The Under 16 Boys had mixed fortunes after a tough run of fixtures. On Saturday, they put in a much improved performance on the road to a strong Baltic Stars side, but ultimately were defeated 83-73. Robbie Cruickshanks had a break-out 31 points while Matt Liddamore had 16 and Kalen Gouldbourne 15. Finally, though, their hard work over the previous weeks paid off, with Sunday’s important win on the road to Oaklands Wolves. Ipswich won 68-63 in a win that will be sure to boost morale for Coach Robinson’s side, with Robbie Cruickshanks again collecting 30+ points, finishing with 33. Kalen Gouldbourne and Matt Liddamore once again provided huge support with 15 and 10 points apiece. The weekend’s results leave the side at 2-4 on the season.

Finally, on Saturday, the Under 14 Boys put on a show in the second half to turn a 4 point half time lead into a dominant 83-51 win over Kent Crusaders. Jaziah Mussington and Anthony Lawicki both scored 27, with Anthony hitting 7 threes. Jake Woolbridge also contributed 12. Ipswich are now 3-2 on the young season.
